Like our badge, the Sheriff ’s Star, which we wear on our uniform over our hearts that has 5 points to it, I base my Campaign Platform on 5 Pillars of Success, without anyone of them the success of the agency is in jeopardy. The demands of the profession have changed over the years, and we must continue to adapt to the expectations and needs of the public we serve. Although the office of the Sheriff is an elected position there is no place for politics in law enforemcent. I believe in unbiased law enforcement based upon facts to maintain trust and keep our communities safe. Political favoritism only undermines these pillars, the foundation of success. Like any building in our New Hampshire communities, you can add, change or build upon a strong foundation but without it no addition or structure will withstand the stresses and the climate.
Integrity
Integrity is the backbone of the profession. If you lose it or it becomes in jeopardy you can not get it back. Trust amongst each other and trust amongst our partners and communities is paramount. That means that we as staff are honest and do what we say, and say what we do. It is taking a path that is sometimes the hard one but the correct one in the long term. We hold each other accountable and carry ourselves both on and off duty in a professional manner. “If it were easy everyone would do it.”
Transparency
We are public employees and as such we must be willing to answer to the public. Transparency is key to gain and maintain trust with the community and our partners. This trust based upon non-biased facts, information, and policies available to the public, when not jeopardizing the integrity of an ongoing investigation or the rights of victims.
Teamwork
No one in law enforcement can do the job alone. It is imperative that we work together within organization and communities that we serve. This will be successfully accomplished by continuing and strengthening many working relationships and partnerships at the Local, County, State and Federal levels. Law enforcement in Central and Northern New Hampshire requires collaboration. These partnerships help to optimize resources, eliminate duplication of efforts, and provide the highest level of services for our communities. This will ensure a safer Grafton County.
Fiscal Responsibility
Like any business, the Sheriff’s Office is run on a budget. It is understood that this service is funded much through taxation amongst the communities that we serve with additional funds from revenue for services provided that offsets the taxation. I will plan for responsible budgets and to make fiscally sound decisions based upon the needs of the department and the demands of our communities. I will seek grants and partnerships that will assist in the budgetary needs.
Recruitment and Retention
Any agency is only as good as the people who are employed or serve therein. If standards are lowered the quality of work will decline and the expectations and trust from the public, our most sacred of foundations will be in jeopardy. We will not sacrifice our mission , vision, or values by lowering our standards. We will continue to seek staff who see this as a long term meaningful career and not just a job.
As Sheriff I will equip our workforce with the tools and training necessary to succeed while encouraging them to keep a healthy work / life balance to be productive and welcoming members of our communities. Morale is often the tipping point between our work product, professionalism, and the trust of the public. We will seek and higher the highest calibre of people to serve and keep respect for the office.
