He has come up through the ranks, leading from the trenches in Grafton County.
In 1995 FJ began his law enforcement career after getting hired by the Waterville Valley Department of Safety, he was trained as a police officer, firefighter and EMT. In 2002 he transitioned from the full public safety career path to focusing on law enforcement after getting hired by the Grafton County Sheriff’s Department. It is after this transfer that FJ clearly identified his professional “Why”. He has remained at the Grafton County Sheriff’s Department since. While with the Sheriff’s Department he has been promoted to Detective, Detective Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. He has overseen the criminal division that specializes in crimes against children, has been a regional contact and affiliate with the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, has taken on complex investigations involving law enforcement and other public officials, and with his partners developed a one of a kind computer forensic lab in the North Country. He has had to make tough decisions and ask tough questions. He is the only candidate who has been promoted through the ranks, has been in the trenches pursuing evil and the corrupt, and has held both public officials and employees accountable.
He never envisioned seeking election for the Sheriff’s Office but is doing so with the support and encouragement of the majority of the department and staff whom he has worked with over the years. If the agency was endorsing another candidate he would support that decision and back that candidate as well, but the agency is asking him and he is accepting the challenge. He understands that the position is not about him but rather the agency and the communities that are served. This position requiring the trust and support of the communities as well as the staff within the agency.
He understands the uniqueness of rural law enforcement in Grafton County. He understands that the regionalization of resources is necessary to support the agencies in the region and that there is no better platform for this regionalization of these resources than at the County level. He knows that the expectations of law enforcement are ever changing with technology and strives to keep Grafton County at the forefront of technical advancements.
He believes in pro-active, fair, and unbiased law enforcement and although believes in enforcing all violations of State statute he promotes aggressively seeking those who are corrupt, those who prey on our youngest victims, our children, and those who sell narcotics in our communities.
Treat every situation with an open mind and understanding of other’s perspectives, and respond to those situations with honest and decisive decisions to accomplish reasonable dispositions. Be willing to compromise when my own non-negotiables and the mission and values of the organization are not in jeopardy. Always be willing to get dirty, challenge staff to think for themselves, recognize accomplishments, and defend your staff or subordinates when their decisions are in line with your purpose even when not popular.
Be open and receptive to change.
